5 Paint Colors That Are Replacing Revere Pewter

No other gray has the earthy, organic look of Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter, making it one of the most timeless shades of gray. But just because a color is relatively timeless doesn’t mean it’s still popular. In fact, there are colors that are almost replacing Revere Pewter… keyword ‘almost’.

Revere Pewter is timeless and familiar. In fact, some of its current popularity is because it’s a well-known name – not because it’s the best choice based on today’s color or design trends.

Remember, a color can be somewhat timeless and reasonably popular, without being in the current trend cycle. When this is the case, it often comes down to…

Moderation and commitment.

What does ‘moderation and commitment ‘ mean?

When homeowners follow trends (like when the gray trend started in 2010 or beige in the early 2000s), they tend to commit hard. Golden beige walls, carpets, and countertops. Gray cabinets, gray-washed flooring, and gray tiles.

This blog post is updated with fresh content and images for 2026

That’s a lot of beige and brown, baby.

We’ve GOT to be less committed if we want our homes to last through the years – timeless homes don’t revolve around trends.

If this were 2015 and you wanted to paint all of the rooms in your home Revere Pewter, sure, we might chat about moderation, but otherwise, you’d fill your little pewter-clad boots.  However, since we’re in 2026 and gray is OUT, it’s a hard no from me. In fact, it’s such a hard no that I’m getting a little excited (wink wink).

For today’s trends, you can definitely use Revere Pewter, just don’t go overboard. For example…

  • KITCHEN CABINETS: I wouldn’t. Gray cabinets are too far gone, no matter how pretty Revere Pewter looks on them.
  • SINGLE ROOMS: Absolutely, so long as the finishes and exposure suit it.
  • WHOLE HOMES: Heck no, that’s too many rooms for a trend that’s gone (gray).
  • EXTERIORS: A million times, yes, so long as your exterior finishes suit a color like this.
  • TRIMS/DOORS: Please don’t. With gray being out, this is a pretty big commitment.

THE BEST REVERE PEWTER ALTERNATIVES

While there are alternatives that are SIMILAR to Revere Pewter, that’s not what this blog post is about.

This is about colors that have replaced Revere Pewter in popularity, along with a noted shift in overall color trends.

In other words, what’s as popular as Revere Pewter was? What’s replaced it as the ‘go-to’ color?

Sherwin Williams Alabaster walls with Extra White trim, two whites go together, dark wood floor in hallway.

First off, color trends have shifted, so we’re not in the gray world anywhere. Second, many of the hot shades are lighter, while still having an organic softness. LASTLY, none of these have the fanfare of Revere Pewter (yet) – it really took off; however, they’re taking a run at the title.

1. SHERWIN WILLIAMS SHOJI WHITE SW 7042

Like Frank’s Hot Sauce, people are putting this $&!#$ on everything.

Shoji White is a popular, off-white warm neutral, and drastically different from Revere Pewter, which is kind of the point of this blog post. Its LRV is 74, making it much lighter and brighter than Revere Pewter’s 55.05 (learn about LRV here – trust me, it’s fun).

This hot shade is replacing Revere Pewter because it’s not just beautiful and warmer than RP, it’s also just as versatile.

  • Looking for a beautiful off-white cabinet color? Shoji White.
  • Do you want to paint your whole home one color? Shoji White.
  • Single rooms, exteriors, open-concepts? This badass beauty has you covered.
  • Toenails? Yup, it can do those, too.

If Shoji White grabs your eye (or both of them), you must compare it to Sherwin Williams White Duck and Aesthetic White – trust the lil’ Ginger.

2. BENJAMIN MOORE PALE OAK OC-20

Pale Oak is a light, soft shade of taupe that can flash soft pink-purple undertones. While these might sound scary, you’d be surprised at how many interior finishes LOVE a color like this.

Of the requested colors, Pale Oaky doaky is near the top of the list, both at Samplize and with my Online Color Consulting

Here’s a Peel & Stick sample of Pale Oak

Benjamin Moore Pale Oak Color Review

  • Pale Oak is beautiful for single rooms or open-concept spaces.
  • It can work as a whole home paint color, but make sure it suits your finishes in each space.
  • Some consider it for their kitchen cabinets – just watch those undertones.
  • It shows up on the odd exterior.

Sure, it’s not as popular as Revere Pewter, but RP set the bar HIGH. I’m still waiting for that one color that really matches/surpasses it in popularity.

If Pale Oak strikes your fancy, compare it with Sherwin Williams Egret White, for sure.

3. SHERWIN WILLIAMS ALABASTER SW 7008

In general, warm, soft white paint colors are massively popular. Fewer people are painting their whole homes bright shades of white, like Chantilly Lace, and instead are choosing gentler colors.

But is Alabaster a paint color that’s replacing Revere Pewter? Almost.

And while Alabaster is pretty dang far away from Revere Pewter’s approach, again, that’s kind of the point of this blog post.

Sherwin Williams Alabaster Color Review

  • Alabaster is popular as a whole-home color
  • It’s commonly used on cabinets, walls, and trims
  • It’s more popular on exterior trim than siding, but it shows up here and there.

If you love Alabaster, compare it with Sherwin Williams Greek Villa and Benjamin Moore White Dove

4. SHERWIN WILLIAMS ACCESSIBLE BEIGE SW 7036

I say this one loosely as it kind of ebbs and flows. Those shifting out of the gray world fall easily in love; however, those of us who’ve been in the warm world a while are kind of bored with it.

But it’s being used on a large enough scale that it’s beating and replacing Revere Pewter. It’s also equally as versatile…

  • Single rooms or open-concept look great in Accessible Beige
  • It’s also a great whole-home color (as long as you have good natural lighting)
  • It’s a beautiful shade for kitchen cabinets.
  • Exteriors can look gorgeous and timeless, painted Accessible Beige

Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige Color Review

If you love Accessible Beige, PLEASE compare it with Sherwin Williams Natural Linen (for walls, not cabinets or exteriors).

In my not-so-humble experience (12,000 Color Consults and counting), it’s actually more versatile than Accessible Beige. This doesn’t make it more popular than A.B., but it should be (especially for updating early 2000s homes).

 5. BENJAMIN MOORE BALLET WHITE OC-9

If we’re talking ease of use and mass appeal, Ballet White is up there with Revere Pewter, for sure, though it’s drastically different in looks. As for whether it’s replacing Revere Pewter…noooo, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a great option if you want your home to look updated.

This is a light cream color with a BIG neutral base, calming it down. Homeowners are loving it because it has warmth without a ton of yellow (though that’s open to perception).

As for depth, its LRV of 71.97 (according to BM) offers a lighter look than Revere Pewter’s skookum depth of 55.05.

  • Ballet White is great in single rooms, open-concept, and whole homes. That said, Shoji White (#1) often coordinates with a wider range of interior finishes/needs.
  • It’s a beautiful, off-white-inspired cabinet color when you want a creamy warmth without too much yellow.
  • It’s also a great color to sample for your exterior.

While none of the above 5 colors are AS POPULAR as Revere Pewter, that’s a tough title to beat. However, for keeping up with today’s color trends, they’re better suited to the average home.

Just because a color was popular doesn’t mean it’s a great color choice for you and your home (unless you don’t care about trends). Revere Pewter is still popular, partly because it’s a familiar name from 15+ years ago.

What about Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray?

It’s not replacing Revere Pewter; in fact, it’s almost in the same shoes. Sure, both still show up at the party, but they don’t have nearly the fanfare or mass appeal they used to. That said, of the 2, Agreeable Gray is more popular these days.

It’s great for single rooms, open-concepts, whole homes, cabinets, AND exteriors – it ain’t no one tricky pony. However, it’s a bit grayer than the current paint color/Design trends.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Because there’s always a little more to learn…

IS REVERE PEWTER STILL POPULAR FOR SINGLE ROOMS?

If you want to paint a few rooms in Revere Pewter, my answer is 1000x, yes. Again, this color has been one of the top shades for the last 15 years and is still going strong. But since the gray trend is out, I wouldn’t go too hard with it.

Revere Pewter’s soft, organic warmth settles especially well in south-facing rooms and those with western afternoon sunshine.

WHAT’S THE MODERN VERSION OF REVERE PEWTER?

Ahhh, that’s a way different question than ‘what’s replacing Revere Pewter’. What’s a MODERN version, though?

Benjamin Moore Rodeo, warm gray paint colour similar to Revere Pewter, white trim, wood floor. Kylie M.

Okay, if I had to modernize Revere Pewter while still winking at its roots, I might look at Benjamin Moore Rodeo, which is a bit lighter and slightly less green-inclined. I’d also check out Sherwin Williams Gossamer Veil, again, for a lighter look.

IS REVERE PEWTER REALLY THAT OUTDATED?

No. Yes. It’s not an easy answer. On a large scale, yes, Revere Pewter is too heavy and cool. However, on a smaller scale, e.g., a bedroom, it’s not at all outdated, so long as it suits the room’s finishes.

For example, it offers a pretty contrast to these red-toned wood finishes without making them look more outdated…

Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter, dark red stained cherry wood furniture, oak floor, traditional style, Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter walls, White Dove trim and wainscoting

It’s also not outdated for exteriors at all. However, it’s no longer trendy for cabinets, though it’s way better than the more traditional gray cabinet colors, which are cooler.

SUMMARY

  • The paint colors replacing Revere Pewter are warmer and lighter. While not all are as versatile or well-known, they’re more suited to today’s color trends.
  • Revere Pewter is still a great color for single room use or exteriors.
  • For kitchen cabinets, unless it’s the BEST color and only option, warmer options will be more in style. If you don’t care about trends, then it’s awesome.

  1. We’re about to close on a house and I was ready to go in there with paint guns blazing and Revere Pewter it up! If Revere Pewter is on its way out, what is taking its place? Would you say that Accessible Beige is on its way out too?

    1. Oh, it’s so hard, as RP is so pretty and IS TIMELESS…I’m just not so sure I’d do a WHOLE home, you know? People are definitely leaning warmer – colors like SW Aesthetic White, SW Natural Linen, BM Maritime White. Accessible Beige is still in, and while it seemed to be going away, with the warmer, moody trends being a bit in, I wouldn’t be surprised if it sticks around. That’s one reason I like Aesthetic White is because it’s like Accessible Beige, but lighter. You could even darken Aesthetic White by 25% for a happy medium???

      1. Thank you so much! Our painter is a BM guy. Can you give a few other while house 55-ish LRV recommendations of BM paints?

  2. Revere Pewter is such a timeless and versatile color! I love how it balances warmth and neutrality, making it suitable for so many spaces. Your insights into how lighting affects its appearance are so helpful—especially the reminder about natural versus artificial light. Thanks for sharing this!

  3. So glad I found this as I just read your post about painting your kitchen cabinets in RP. I had almost decided to do that, but now I’m reevaluating. We definitely do not want GRAY, looking for more of a cream. Walls are SW Alabaster now, and would be getting new counters and backsplash. Since I love the Alabaster, I’m now thinking maybe the cabinets should simply be Alabaster, too! Wish me luck!
